Description

cycle-v3 · Each line is one calendar year, compounded from January on month-end closes, superimposed on a common Jan–Dec axis. 9 years is 9 observations per month — few enough that any shape here is a curiosity rather than a seasonal effect, and the envelope is the range those few years happened to cover, not a confidence interval. Years with fewer than six months of record are excluded. Drawn as a multiple of each year's opening: one outlier year on a linear axis flattens every other year onto the base line, which is why the scale is a control. Every chart here assumes cycles continue in roughly the shape they have so far. Nothing in the data can tell you when that stops being true.

The horizontal axis is month of year rather than date, so every calendar year is drawn on the same twelve slots and can be compared directly. Months with no observation are left empty rather than carried forward.

How to read it

2018–2026 · 9 years · 2026 to date 0.57× (-43%) · highest any year reached 7.3× · lowest 0.39×

Every value plotted for a past date could have been computed on that date. Normalised series expand their window rather than scaling against the full history, so nothing here is drawn using information that did not exist yet — which is also why the early years of a normalised series are dropped rather than shown against a range of one.
